Philippi Sports Foundation Receives Gift
The Philippi Sports Institute would like to acknowledge and thank Bruce Bain for his generous gift to the Philippi Sports Foundation (PSF). Only through the help of donations from supporters such as Bruce will we continue to see the many benefits education and sport provides to a young person; his commitment to changing lives in our community is very much appreciated!
The Philippi Sports Foundation was created to ensure the ideals of a healthy lifestyle, support for education and introduction to sports are carried on to benefit those with less fortunate backgrounds. In addition to mentoring opportunities, the Foundation provides children opportunities to participate in sessions promoting fitness/nutrition, in character education based on Sean Covey’s “Seven Habits of Highly Effective Teens” and in athletic competitions that strengthen a positive self image, emphasize teamwork, teach discipline, promote goal setting and demonstrate the commitment it takes to achieve such goals.
Each year many young people benefit from this program as the Foundation continues to advance its mission. For a young person, the world is filled with a future of choices and a choice of futures. Early exposure to sport and education, effective encouragement and continual support built self confidence, established a strong foundation for a healthy lifestyle and provides a sense of direction and purpose to achieve goals never thought possible. Even the smallest donation makes a big difference in their life and puts them on a path for future success!
Additionally, the long-term effects of not embracing physical fitness and proper nutrition cripple opportunities to pursue all life has to offer and too often can be life-threatening. Over 40 million people are obese, eight out of every ten people over the age of twenty-five are overweight and 78% of all Americans are not meeting basic activity level recommendations. Obese individuals also have an increased risk of serious disease including diabetes, cardiovascular disease and cancer.
